Ep. VIII - Delivery and Upgrades
Friends always disappear right when you need them!

Hard times have hit the Valorik Sector. Jobs have become scares and competition has become fearce (even among friends). Desperate for work, our heroes take what ever mundane jobs that lead them to the glorious Noola Starlight. Noola entrusted our heroes with a letter to Starforge Station. On the way to Starforge the Snow Raven’s jury-rigged hyperdirve finally gives out. After much pain the heroes make it to Starforge to deliver the letter. While at Starforge the heroes obtain a new and better hyperdirve. They quickly set route to Paradise and Shamus’ Slightly Used Starships to have the hyperdive installed.
To the concern of the heroes, Shamus has gone missing. The heroes set off to find their favourite mechanic. Their investigation takes them to The Pits. Our heroes infiltrate the lair of Kaylo Nakuda, using the swoop races as a cover. Their hard work pays off as the heroes are able to foil Kaylo’s operation, and free their favourite mechanic. Shamus rewards our heroes by installing the new hyperdive.

But the good time were not about to last. Mysteriously the Empire has cracked down on the Valorik Sector. This new desire to enforce Imperial control has taken the smuggling community by surprise, and everyone is on edge. Hard working scoundrals are forced to go legit, or find themselves starving. On top of this all, our heroes friend and mentor Axtor Bridgeman has gone missing.
Our heroes head off to the only “free” location left in the sector, Starforge Station. While there our heroes find Larso, Axtor’s partner in crime. Larso is able to direct our heroes to Axtor, just before Starforge is attacked by the Empire.
Under Larso’s information our heroes reunite themselves with Axtor Bridgeman on Shownar. Axtor shows the heroes why he has been hiding, and why the Empire has become so vigilant. Axtor was smuggling an advanced Imperial encryption computer for the Syndicate. Unfortunately for Axtor, his morals got in the way of the job, and he made arrangements to have the computer delivered to “special friends” instead.
Unfortunately for our heroes, they were tracked by the Syndicate. A bounty hunter named Galasett captured Keeg in an attempt to get at Axtor. Keeg was “saved” when he was shot by Slabbanaka. Sensing that the situation had gone very sour, Galasett bolted to fight another day.
Our heroes now enacted their plan to turn the Empire on the Syndicate, get the computer to Axtor’s “special friends”, and see Axtor Bridgeman safely into retirement.

When times are tough, can you still do a favor for a friend?

Corren, Slabba, and Keeg head to The Station in the Valos system seeking work, along with all the other free traders, from the only credible opportunity in the sector. As the cargo that needs to be shipped is of a limited supply, and sold on a “first come, first serve” basis speed is of the essence. The group immediately get to work making quick “shuttle runs” between planets in the system, delivering the cargo as quickly as they can, and using Keeg’s technical savvy to “bump” their ship ahead of their rivals. It is a tension-filled time for all traders in the sector, with everyone trying to scratch and claw to get whatever they can. The rivalry between Corren and Chordak continued with a fight picked by Corren, but decidedly won by Chordak.

After a few successful runs, Corren receives a message from his friend Axtor Bridgeman who wants to meet him. In a cantina called the Golden Goose, Axtor asks Corren to do him a favour: deliver a personal letter to a person on Starforge Station. Initially hesitant, Corren agrees when it is revealed, in person, that the letter is from no other than Noola Starlight. Just before departing, Keeg examines the letter, breaking the light encryption that is protecting it. The contents of the letter seem innocent enough, but Corren notices that the language of the letter just seems a bit unnatural, or “off.” Taking the letter on board the Snow Raven with their cargo, the group departs for Starforge Station via the hyperspace route known as Smuggler’s Run.

Sometime into the journey, the Snow Raven’s hyperdrive suddenly fails in a large explosion. When Slabba examines it, he quickly determines two things: it is heavily damaged, repairable, but not without significant work; and that its failure was no accident: they were sabotaged. Shortly after discovering this, the ship is attacked by the pirate Mylak. Disabling the ship in a short fight, Mylak and his crew board the Snow Raven. Despite an heroic personal defense by Slabba, the crew is eventually overcome, rendered unconscious and taken captive.

The three awake to find themselves slaves of Mylak, and in a vile cantina known as the Broken Tusk, where gladiatorial bouts are the main entertainment. While Corren and Keeg are forced to watch, Slabba must fight for his life in the “Dool Arena.” Slabba wins his first fight against a Gamorrean with a vibro-axe in a rousing fashion, a disturbing side to the Wookie is revealed as his rips out the heart of his helpless opponent in a gory victory celebration. Meanwhile, Corren and Keeg take in their surroundings and attempt to formulate an escape plan. After discovering that the slave collars they are wearing have an electric shock triggered by close proximity to Mylak, but they fail to use this as an instrument to affect their escape (by hurling Keeg into Mylak). Things get worse for the group when Slabba is quickly rendered unconscious in his second gladiator fight, and Keeg renders himself unconscious trying to pick the lock of his slave collar.

Having had enough of the troublesome group, Mylak takes all three to the local slave market to sell them for whatever he can get, and be rid of their trouble. Slabba, flying into a rage at the thought of being enslaved, rushed at Mylak, overcoming the slave collar’s electricity through sheer force of strength. With a single mighty blow he renders Mylak unconscious. The worst parts of Corren and Slabba’s nature again emerge as both tear into the unconscious pirate, dismembering him in bloody fashion.

The group then flees to the Snow Raven and make good their escape.

Corren and Slabba are given their first smuggling job by Bub: transport a load of alcohol from Elosala to Shownar even though the permit to transport those goods was “lost.” The two make an uneventful trip to Elosala to pickup their cargo. Although they look seriously out of place among the city’s wealthy “trading houses”, they are given no trouble getting the cargo. However, they are told that loading the ship will take several hours, so the two head into the city to pass the time. While wandering through the city, Corren recognizes an old friend of his father’s: Axtor Bridgeman. Axtor appears to be being “leaned on” by some goons led by Ryss, who are “reminding” him that his loan payment is due. Corren and Slabba intervene and the goons back down, but remind them that about the “dangers of pirates in this sector.” Relieved, Axtor invites the two for a drink at a cantina called The Golden Goose.

While relaxing in the cantina, they catch a performance of the captivating singer Noola Starlight. During the set Noola winks at Corren (or at least he thinks she winked at him), further heightening Corren’s fascination with the gorgeous Twi’lek. After the show, Corren and Axtor catch up on old times. On hearing about their current delivery, Axtor tells them about the “Smuggler’s Run” hyperspace route, which will take them from Elosala to Shownar while avoiding the majority of Imperial patrols. Thanking him for the info, Corren and Slabba head off.

While taking the lengthy and dangerous journey, the Snow Raven is dropped out of hyperspace by an asteroid, and accosted by the pirate Vangar in a small capital ship, escorted by 2 Z-95 Headhunter starfighters. During the short battle, the Snow Raven is pummeled, but Axtor and Dynasty arrive just in time to drive off the pirates with a few well-place concussion missiles. Seeing that the Raven cannot make the trip to Shownar in its current state, Axtor leads them into the Starforge Nebula to the hidden port of Starforge Station for necessary repairs. After getting the repairs and a brief tour of the station, Corren and Slabba head out again.

Arriving in the Shownar system, the Snow Raven is stopped by an Imperial Customs Corvette and boarded. Stepping aboard to perform in the inspection is Captain Borbin, a portly man with unkempt beard and hair. Borbin makes a brief show of inspecting the ship, and makes some vague references about permits, but it quickly becomes clear that he is really just looking for a bribe. Obliging him with a hefty payment, Corren is allowed to proceed to the planet and make his delivery. After successfully delivering their cargo, Corren and Slabba are feel like blowing off some steam, so they head to the “undercity” for drinking, gambling, and picking a fight with locals. All in a day’s work.

Ep. I - Welcome to Paradise
A smuggling career begins by getting in over your head
  • Corren and Slabba arrive on Paradise following a lead on a job doing shipping work for Bub’s Expert Shipping
  • after accepting their first job, they must scramble to actually get a ship
  • talking to Harrimin the group is direct to the gangster Narrik who gives them a loan to buy a ship
  • head to Shamus’ Slightly Used Starships where they meet the colorful squib Shamus and purchase their ship, christening it the Snow Raven
  • their first job is to pick up a shipment on Valos and deliver it to Elosala
  • land on the “far” side of Valos, which is populated by the gruff miners that extract the stone they are here to pick up
  • after a minor bar scuffle, the load up their cargo and head for the vice-ridden world of Elosala
  • they deliver their shipment on time and make their first ship payment
